“I Am Tyra” Wins Fall 2024 Roy W. Dean Grant

A Powerful Documentary on Justice, Redemption, and the Fight for Freedom

From the Heart Productions is proud to announce that the documentary I Am Tyra has been selected as the winner of the Fall 2024 Roy W. Dean Grant. Directed and produced by Laurence Mathieu-Léger, I Am Tyra tells the powerful and deeply moving story of Tyra Patterson, a mentor, social justice advocate, and survivor of the U.S. justice system.

Wrongfully convicted at just 19 years old, Tyra spent 23 years behind bars for a crime she did not commit. Her fight for freedom and exoneration serves as a beacon of hope for countless young women impacted by mass incarceration and the systemic failures of the justice system.

A Story That Demands to Be Told

“Tyra Patterson’s story is one of resilience and courage,” said Carole Dean, President of From the Heart Productions. “Her journey is a testament to the indomitable human spirit and the urgent need for justice reform. I Am Tyra aligns perfectly with our mission of supporting films that make a meaningful contribution to society. We are honored to help bring this vital documentary to life.”
