Meet Bahati
A little girl whose laughter and love of learning remind us what care can do.
Dear From the Heart family,
I want to introduce you to Bahati. She is eight years old, a Gemini, and she loves to read. For the past year and a half, Bahati has been part of our From the Heart family – even though she lives many miles away in Tanzania.
A portion of the money we bring in through our fiscal sponsorship and programs helps support her education and her daily life. That means school, a safe place to live, nourishing meals, caring adults, and the ordinary rhythm of childhood that every child deserves.
A joyful spirit
Bahati came to the center with her sisters after an unimaginably difficult beginning. What I hope you see in her photos is not only where she has been, but who she is becoming: a bright, warm child with people around her who are cheering her on.
She is now in Grade 2 and receives daily guided study support. Her teachers, caregivers, and social workers are helping her build confidence, keep learning, and dream about what comes next.
Bahati’s schooling is very different from ours. Along with her regular studies, she is learning to grow vegetables and raise chickens, pigs, and other animals for food. These practical skills will help her become self-sufficient when she leaves school.
Her eighth birthday
The update we received described cake, cookies, ice cream, and friends singing together. These simple moments help make a childhood feel safe, loved, and full of possibility.
Why I wanted to share her story
Our work is about helping filmmakers tell stories that move people. Bahati is one of the beautiful real-life stories your participation in From the Heart touches: a little girl learning, growing up with her sisters, and making drawings for the people who care about her.

Maasai Girls Rescue Center
Bahati is one of the girls cared for by Maasai Girls Rescue Center in Tanzania. The Center gives sponsors a way to share in each girl’s growth, achievements, and accomplishments – not from afar as statistics, but as young people with names, stories, friendships, and dreams.
It is an honor for From the Heart to support the work of MGRC and to share the joy of its girls with our filmmaking community.
