Directed by Pita Juarez and Matty Steinkamp, You Racist, Sexist, Bigot is a call for respect for human diversity and human rights. The documentary features several people speaking to camera, speaking to us, telling their stories, sharing their experience, and expressing their opinions.
The film brings intolerance, bias, and violence out of the realms of words, ideas, and news reports, into the viscera of our emotions, into our hearts and minds.
The ideal audience for the film would be, of course, entrenched racists, sexists, and bigots. But, at least those of us who value honoring diversity can and will see the film. My philosophy states that if one, such as yours truly, sees oneself as unbiased, one is anything but. Bias seems to be written into our genetic code. Best we can do is admit our biases, and say, ‘I’m working on it.’
Featuring high production values, You Racist, Sexist, Bigot is a perfect film to help us confront and work on our own biases, and listen to and support victims of bias and intolerance.
